The Central Michigan Public Relations Society of America (CMPRSA) is one of the 100 chapters of the Public Relations Society of America, the world’s largest organization for public relations professionals.
CMPRSA was founded in 1977 by a handful of local public relations professionals. Records of the early founding members are difficult to locate, however a beginning mission statement of the chapter stated that its purpose “was an association through which public relations practitioners interact, develop professionally, support members and the community, and strengthen the profession.” In 2006, the chapter board passed a new mission that mirrored the national Society’s mission, “advancing the profession and professional.”
Core areas in which the chapter focuses advancement of the profession include: membership development, professional development, student mentorship, accreditation, diversity and ethical education and advocacy, and liaison relationships with our local, regional, and national levels.
PRSA has more than 28,000 professional and student members. The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has 255 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the country with one located at Michigan State University (MSU). CMPRSA partners with MSU’s PRSSA student group.
