Public Relations Coordinator

Description: Lansing-based membership association seeks a public relations coordinator with a track record of success as a marketing communications professional. Position requires knowledge of media relations, communication dissemination techniques and methods; writing, editing, graphic design and layout; and the ability to think creatively and take ideas from the conceptual stage to a finished product. The ideal candidate has an analytical mind that can identify key success factors and metrics, create and implement actionable strategies to achieve results. The ability to build strong relationships and serve as a dynamic communicator with strong presentation skills is critical. BA/BS degree in journalism, communications or related field. Excellent written communication skills. Experience with PC and MAC applications. Photography experience helpful. Some travel. Generous benefit package.

This is a hands-on, roll your sleeves up role (NOT a manager of a team or budget). No third party candidates. The Manager of External Communications requires recent, credible and direct hands-on writing & media relations experience specific to crisis communications and investor relations, including the ability to research and report news opportunities about the corporation. This person will work closely with business unit and company leaders to communicate strategic messages to key external audiences. Qualifications: • Under-graduate or graduate student studying marketing, public relations, communications, etc. • Strong communication and writing skills required. • Takes initiative and has good organizational skills. • Working knowledge of In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Word and Publisher software preferred. • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Responsibilities • Write/design client materials (e.g. press releases, articles, fliers, brochures) • Build media list • Contact potential sponsors for event • Coordinate and distribute marketing materials • Assist with event planning and production • Undertake duties as designated by internship advisor Schedule: • Immediately through April 24, 2010 (possibly one week beyond April 24). • Approximately 8 hours per week for 11 weeks • Primarily Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm • Must work on Saturday, April 24 Compensation: • $11.00 per hour/8 hours per week
